Department Manager / Assistant Manager – Structural (Bridge) Engineering
D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Department Manager for our Structural Engineering team to lead and grow the Structural (Bridge) Engineering group.
The Manager of this well-established and technical team must have strong interest and experience in bridge projects and heavy civil projects, as well as the desire to lead and mentor the team.
Provide direction, training, performance management, professional development and mentorship to staff within the department.
Act as a primary point of contact with clients, ensuring high service quality standards are met in accordance with client expectations.
Engage in business development initiatives to secure new clients and promote the reputation of the firm.
Oversee department budgets and financial management, ensuring that the department meets corporate financial objectives.
Oversee health and safety requirements of departmental personnel, ensuring a safe workplace culture within the department.
Ensure that timelines are met for all project key deliverables.
Lead and implement a continuous improvement process for the Department to ensure quality products and optimal service delivery to clients.
Provide input on RFP and RFQ submissions.
Understand and determine the applicability of relevant local, provincial and federal government regulations on an individual project basis.
Significant Qualifications include:
Licensed as a Professional Engineer of Ontario (P.Eng. with PEO).
Minimum ten (10) years of experience providing some or all of essential duties and responsibilities as noted above.
Minimum five (5) years of people management and project management experience in a consulting engineering environment.
Strong competency is structural analysis and design.
Ministry of Transportation RAQS approval in Bridge Engineering categories.
Extensive experience with proposal submissions, project management and contract administration and proven track record winning proposals.
Solid knowledge of principles and practices of financial accounting, budget development, cost control and invoicing.
Strong communication skills including mediation and negotiation, coupled with superior written and oral presentation proficiencies.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving abilities.
Excellent work ethic and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously and effective time management capabilities to meet timelines.
Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act. knowledge of other legislation and regulations related to department functions.
Wills provides Structural (Bridge) Engineering services throughout Ontario for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) as well as Municipal clients. This position is located in Peterborough, Ontario, however some travel to support design and construction projects is required.

Senior Traffic Project Engineer – Transportation Department
D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Senior Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading Transportation Engineering and Transportation Planning studies, engaging in both multi-disciple engineering projects as well as stand-alone Traffic Studies.
Sound communication and technical skills coupled with excellent leadership and management abilities, as well as superior written and oral presentation skills are essential for this position.
Significant Qualifications include:
A university degree in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer designation, licensed in the Province of Ontario.
Minimum 5 years of Transportation Engineering experience, specifically in Traffic Planning and Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
Familiar with OTM Books, TAC/MTO Design Guides, HCM, ITE Manuals, Roadside Design Manual.
Working knowledge of Synchro & HCS.
MTO experience is considered valuable and will be given preference.
Registered (or eligible for registration) in RAQS for various Traffic Engineering categories.
Successful completion of Transportation Engineering and Planning projects for both public and private clients.
Manage multiple and/or major projects.
Coordinate all facets of assigned projects (proposal, schedule, cost control, quality, communication etc.).
Secure new traffic projects/clients and maintain existing clients.
Mentor junior staff in traffic engineering and planning.
